wine stainsJan Boer says: Tenuta delle Terre Nere ‘Calderara Sottana’ 2006

Long name. Pretty good wine. A little bit Beaujolais in parts on the nose, though not so obviously confectioned, but more masculine in the mouth. Maybe somewhere between ripe Gamay and Nero d’avola in flavour/style? Nice tannin, a bit chewy (but good chewy) with savoury red and darkish fruit flavour. Not profound but stayed interesting till the last glass.

Hudelot-Noellat Chambolle Musigny 2006

Classically styled village Burgundy, old school feel, no frilly bits here. Really needs a bit of time, some of the 06’s are a bit austere in their youth but if you stare at the label and price tag long enough you usually find ways to forgive Burgundy its flavour failings.

Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Kabinett 2007

How good are the Willi Schaefer 07’s? Actually, how good is Willi Schaefer full stop. Delicate, seamless, such purity of flavour. A wine that makes you stop and think.

Here you get to reminisce not just about bottles drunk but also great meals eaten and the crazy, crazy gang that was there at the time. Send photos and brief comments to widlneditor@gmail.com. Feel free to use a pseudonym and your email address will not be published.
