In tune.

At WineX last night, the chance to taste the two new ultra-premium wines bearing the name of Woolworths wine selector Allan Mullins.

Allan Mullins My Song White 2012: 17/20
Price: R169
50% Sauvignon Blanc from Reyneke Wines in Stellenbosch, 50% Semillon from Cape Point Vineyards (half of this wooded).  A dramatic wine, very much new-wave in style being fully ripe, which is to say not a hint of greenness. Intense yellow apple, rich and broad in structure, moderate acidity.

Allan Mullins My Song Red 2009: 17/20
Price: R199
50% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc from Spier. Red and black fruit, some attractive leafiness. Medium bodied with fresh acidity and fine tannins. Understated – a well-made Stellenbosch red but perhaps not remarkable enough to warrant the price tag.
