Bartho Eksteen Wijnskool Ouskool 2013

Top marks.

Bartho Eksteen, previously of Hermanuspietersfontein, now runs a wine academy with funding from Diners Club while also making wine under his own label called Wijnskool by Bartho Eksteen.

Ouskool 2013 (price: R265 a bottle) is a blend of Paarl Shiraz and Hemel-en-Aarde Mourvèdre and Grenache. It has arresting aromatics of red and black fruit, intense pepper and spice. The palate, meanwhile, shows concentrated fruit, lemon-like acidity and gently grippy tannins. It’s big, bold and flavoursome despite a relatively moderate alcohol by volume of 13.5%.

#WinemagRating: 91/100.

I would like to introduce myself, I am Esther Smuts Chairperson of Kempton Park Wine Circle. I was wondering if Bartho would be interested in presenting some of his wines for our club.
