Beaumont Hope Marguerite 2015

Slow burner.

The 2015 vintage of Hope Marguerite Chenin Blanc from Bot River property seems particularly understated now but has the inherent structure and balance to reward a good few years of bottle maturation.

From vineyards planted in 1974 and 1978, juice was fermented spontaneously, maturation lasting 10 months in 400-litre barrels, 15% new. On the nose, there are subtle notes of pear, citrus, stone fruit and some yeasty character. The palate appears rich and broad – no great detail at the moment, it has to be said but as mentioned above, there is a sense that this will come with age. Wine Cellar price: R225 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 93/100.
