Beeslaar Pinotage 2015

Tour de force.

The Beeslaar Pinotage 2015 is the sort of wine you get when the person behind it is utterly on top of his game. This is the own label of Abrie Beeslaar, winemaker at Kanonkop, and his deftness with this sometimes tricky variety is all over this wine. A not too shabby vintage clearly also helped.

Matured for 20 months in 90% French and 10% American oak, the nose shows cherries and plums, floral fragrance plus hints of chocolate and spice, cinnamon in particular.  The palate shows great density – pure fruit, bright acidity and firm but fine tannins. It’s an acutely observed wine which provides great drinking pleasure – it just slides down now but should mature magnificently. Wine Cellar price: R415 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 94/100.
