Bellingham Homestead The Old Orchards Chenin Blanc 2015

In a different league.

When Bellingham launched a new tier of wines under the Homestead label earlier in the year, I have to confess to be a little underwhelmed (see here). The Old Orchards Chenin Blanc 2015, available only from the tasting room, is a different proposition altogether.

From 25-year-old Agter Paarl vineyards, juice underwent spontaneous fermentation and maturation for seven month in old French oak. The wine shows peach and apricot, spice and some yeast complexity on the nose while the palate is rich and flavourful, tangy acidity lending balance. Terrific quality relative to price at R65 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 92/100.
