Major artist collab.

The challenge to rehabilitate Chenin Blanc remains on-going but what if we positioned it as the ultimate wors-rol wine? Betsie Says Cheers Chenin Blanc 2012 (R98 a bottle from Manuka in Somerset West) is a collaboration between chef Bertus Basson and Craig Cormack and winemaker Louis Nel. The Betsie as featured on the label is the same Betsie who is mascot of Basson’s Wors-Rol business, which has him serving gourmet hot dogs from a caravan.

From old bush vines in Stellenbosch, this Chenin is naturally fermented. It’s as buxom and rounded as its namesake with plenty of peach, apricot and pineapple on the nose and palate. A bit of sassiness provided by tangy acidity. Entirely charming.

Score: 16/20
