Blaauwklippen Vineyard Selection 2007
CELLAR PRICE: R80

Old-style Cab with cassis as well as tobacco and attractive oak on the nose. The palate shows pure fruit, fresh, almost tart acidity and firm but fine tannins, while the finish is long and dry. Includes a dash of Petit Verdot.
CE’s score: 18/20

Waterford Estate 2007
CELLAR PRICE: R135

The first 100% Cab from this Helderberg producer since 1998 (the 2006, for instance, included 10% other Bordeaux varieties). Classically styled, this wine shows cassis and a pleasant leafi ness
on the nose. The palate has good fruit purity, fresh acidity and well-judged oak.
CE’s score: 18/20

Uitkyk Carlonet 2001
APPROXIMATE RETAIL PRICE: R84.06

2001 was Uitkyk winemaker Estelle Lourens’ first vintage and a portion of this wine was held back after it enjoyed competition success on initial release. Ten years on from vintage, it’s ready for
drinking with ripe fruit offset by appealing secondary character.
CE’s score: 17/20

Rudera 2008
APPROXIMATE RETAIL PRICE: R150

The nose is a little shy but the palate shows super-concentrated dark fruit, fresh acidity and firm but fine tannins. Residual sugar of 3.6g/l lends polish, and it certainly seduced me! Other panel
members found it overdone, the fruit in particular too ripe.
CE’s score: 19/20
