Monster.

Monster.

With chocolate and almond torte last night, a bottle of Boplaas Port Cape Vintage Reserve 2004, rated 5 Stars in the 2007 edition of Platter’s.

I’ve had this wine twice already this year and this was by far the best bottle – it’s very rich and broad and I’ve been inclined to think too developed but this bottle showed better fruit purity and just enough freshness.

Initially, dense and somewhat indiscernible black fruit plus chocolate and spice, the tannins firm but fine. With time in glass, however, more detail came to the fore. Suffice to say, I prefer my Port not quite so massive.

Score: 91/100.
