Bosman Family Vineyards Nero dAvola 2014

First out of the blocks.

“Western Sicily’s most serious red wine grape, also known as Calabrese. Very fruity though barrel maturation can work well,” is the description of Nero d’Avola on JancisRobinson.com.

The first plant material came to South Africa in 2004, Bosman Family Vines subsequently establishing a vineyard in Wellington and the 2014 vintage is the first to be officially labelled as Nero d’Avola.

Matured for 12 months in second-, third- and fourth-fill oak, the nose shows flowers, red and black cherry, some pleasant herbal character and a hint of vanilla. Good fruit definition, bright acidity and fine, spicy tannins. Entirely likeable if not super-complex. Exclusively available to wine club members at R150 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 87/100.

    Good Day

I have tasted this recently and have a couple I wish to cellar. What would the ideal cellaring period be? i was thinking 5 years.

    Kind Regards

Hi Jurgens, I’d guess a good drinking window would be now to 2018. As ever, how long to age a wine depends on your tolerance for developed flavours.
