Will Skurfberg and Chenin Blanc become to us what Montrachet and Chardonnay is to Burgundy? Ginny Povall of Botanica Wines is one of those producers that sources grapes from this site near Clanwilliam and her resulting wine is a category benchmark.
The current-release 2013 (Wine Cellar price: R185 a bottle) is very good but probably a shade off the riveting 2012 (see here). Peach, cut apple, some earthiness and a subtle yeasty note. Broad with some pleasant oxidative character and seemingly quite moderate acidity. Flavourful but lacks the definition and verve of the previous vintage.
