Potent.
From the Citrusdal Mountain ward which also supplies grapes for the likes of Alheit Vineyards’ Magnetic North Mountain Makstok and The Sadie Family’s Skurfberg, the Botanica Mary Delany Collection Chenin Blanc from Ginny Povall has many fans, the 2015 currently available from Wine Cellar at R280 a bottle.
On the nose, lemon and orange, stone fruit, honeycomb and some leesy complexity. The palate is rich and full, relatively thick in texture and savoury on the finish. Quite old fashioned in style, I found it demanding to drink but undoubtedly a wine of stature.
