Running out of puff?

Does local Sauvignon Blanc get drunk too young? The Buitenverwachting Husseys Vlei Sauvignon Blanc 2010, which won gold at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show in 2011, was still alive  when broached last night but quite hard work.

On the nose, green bean and some low-level reduction but also some age-derived honey. The palate revealed some grapefruit (nice) but also some asparagus (not so nice). It was rich and thick textured with coated acidity – still pretty impressive but I had the sense it would’ve been better six months ago.

Score: 89/100.
