David wines. On Friday, the official launch of the newly restored Paardebosch cellar in the Swartland – David Sadie is incumbent here, the facility also where he and with wife Nadia will make wines under the “David” label going forward.

All the wines have been previously reviewed on this site, bar the David Grenache 2014 and Elpidios 2013. Tasting notes and scores as follows:

David Grenache 2014
Wine Cellar price: R295
Cherry and raspberry, potpourri and dried herbs – nothing overt and all the more enticing as a result. Light but still forceful on the palate. Lovely freshness and a particularly savoury finish. A wine of great poise.

Score: 94/100.

David Elpidios 2013
Price: On request.
A blend of Syrah, Carignan, Cinsaut, Grenache and a small percentage of Pinotage. Red and black fruit, black olives, a certain earthiness and a note of spice. Good concentration, fresh acidity and relatively smooth tannins. A typical Swartland red that grows in stature with each passing vintage.

Score: 92/100.

Excellent wines, I had the Elpidios ahead of the Grenache, but will look forward to comparing both from the same vintage.
