Unpretentious.

Three more De Bos wines, the Fairtrade accredited label from Bosman Family Vineyards in Wellington.

The unwooded Walker Bay Chardonnay 2012 is light and fresh but a bit simple, the Handpicked Merlot noticeably sweet (RS 5.2g/l) while the Bay Pinot Noir 2012 is the most noteworthy – black cherry, obvious but not totally discordant toasty oak, extra-fresh acidity and a saline finish. From vineyards planted between 2006 and 2008, it’s not super-complex but at R95 a bottle, Pinot addicts won’t be constrained by price when it comes to getting their fix. Score: 15/20.
