Let's get fizz-ical.

Served as an aperitif before the launch of the top-end, Merlot-driven Thibault 2009 yesterday, De Wetshof Pinot Noir Brut 2008 (R190 a bottle) pretty much stole the show for me. It’s elegant and sophisticated – subtle red cherry and brioche, a fine mousse and a bone-dry finish. It seems really carefully considered on the part of winemaker Pieter de Wet and I can’t think of a better Pinot-driven bubbly in the country right now. Score: 17/20
