Last night dinner at Bistrot Bizerca with my darling wife Jane to celebrate five years of marriage. We bought along a special bottle of wine in the form of Domaine Santa Duc Gigondas 1998. All wine appreciation is ultimately situational but this was lovely. From Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, it showed earthy, meaty notes on the nose but the palate was still relatively primary with notes of sun-baked plums and plenty of spice. Nice fresh acidity and tannins fully resolved. Great with braised veal shoulder. Score irrelevant.
