Cape Legends, the fine wine division of producer-wholesaler Distell, recently relaunched its Tukulu range of wines produced on Papkuilsfontein in Darling as Earthbound with Fairtrade certification – for every bottle that is sold, R6.50 is re-invested into the farm and its people. Out of the five wines available, only the Pinot Noir is not organic.
Tasting notes for the three I sampled as follows:
Earthbound Organic Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Shy nose. Lightly fruity (granadilla) with moderate acidity. Inoffensive but rather simple.
Earthbound Organic Chenin Blanc 2013
Notes of pear and peach. Relatively good concentration and fresh acidity making for easy drinking.
Earthbound Organic Pinotage 2012
Red cherry, some fynbos and an overt sawdust-like note. Light-bodied with fresh acidity and fine tannins. No great complexity.
There is also an Organic Cabernet Sauvignon in the range.
