Ferreira Port 2000

By , 20 July 2015

Good to go.

Good to go.

2000 was apparently a classic year for Vintage Port but fifteen years from vintage seemed a long enough wait to broach a bottle of Ferreira couriered back from a trip to Portugal some time ago.

Ferreira is owned by major Portuguese producer Sogrape and from what I gather is considered a “reliable” rather than “outstanding” house. According to Wine-searcher.com, the 2000 would cost in the vicinity of R700 a bottle.

The wine showed red fruit, dried herbs, nutmeg and other spices on the nose. Also a bit of an acetone pong but nothing serious. The palate was medium bodied with fresh acidity, the finish long and gently savoury. Compared to local stuff, it appeared less overtly sweet but equally less rich and viscous.

Score: 90/100.
