Kyle Dunn and Jasper Wickens, sidekicks of Swartland high-flier Adi Badenhorst, have come up with a cracking little red in the form of Fist of Fancy Pinot Noir 2013 (Wine Cellar price: R90 a bottle).

Grapes from McGregor, it recalls Beaujolias or Côte de Beaune in how perfumed and fruity it is. On the nose, red and black berries plus a light and rather pretty herbal note. It has an abv of 14% so it’s not short of stuffing but there’s also really zippy acidity and just the right amount of tannic grip on the finish. Serve straight from the fridge for something ridiculously drinkable and unpretentious.

Score: 86/100.
