Brothers are doing it for themselves.
Fraternity is a joined venture between Joseph Dhafana, the head sommelier of La colombe restaurant and Herman Redelinghuys, the owner of Swartland cellar Antebellum. Grapes are sourced from three different sites in the area, juice undergoing spontaneous fermentation and maturation lasting eight months in second- and third-fill French oak before a further three months in tank.
It’s an accomplished offering. On the nose, citrus and white peach plus some leesy character while he palate is richer than the 12.5% alcohol might suggest but harmonious, a smooth texture playing off against snappy acidity before a suitably savoury finish. Approximate retail price: R100 a bottle.
