A rare night out for darling and me on Thursday. After attending RMB WineX at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, we headed with intent for Bizerca Bistro and some of chef Laurent Deslandes delicious grub.
For mains, darling chose the rabbit fricassee and I ordered chicken jambonnette. Something medium bodied and fresh to drink. Perhaps Wolftrap 2000, the Shiraz-Mourvèdre-Viognier blend from the Boekenhoutskloof crew at R105 a bottle? Or maybe The Chocolate Block 2008, consisting of 69% Syrah, 13% Grenache, 10 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cinsaut and 2% Viognier at R370 a bottle?
In the end, we opted for Guigal Côtes-du-Rhône Red 2004, a blend of 55% Syrah, 35% Grenache, 8% Mourvèdre and 2% “other” (according to Guigal.com) at R260 a bottle which seemd to offer the perfect compromise in terms of the relationship of quality to price and a bit of age to boot.
