Intellego Syrah 2014

Good to go.

Good to go.

The single vineyard Intellego Kolbroek 2013 made by Jurgen Gouws is knock-out (see here). Slightly less demanding but still very pleasing is the Intellego Syrah 2014. It comes in at about R145 a bottle compared to R170 for the Kolbroek and is made from grapes sourced from two vineyards – one on granite situated on the Paardeberg and another on iron near Abbotsdale (off the N7 just before you get to Malmesbury).

Featuring 50% whole bunch fermentation, it was matured for 11 months in old oak. It shows red and black fruit, a certain olivaceous quality plus a fynbos top note. The palate is medium bodied with good fruit expression, fresh acidity and tannins which might best be described as pliable. Drink now and over the next two years.

Score: 90/100.
