The 2003 vintage of J.C. Le Roux Scintilla collected accolades galore from overall winner at the Amorim Cap Classique Challenge 2012 to best in class at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2013 and the next vintage which is 2008 has just been released (R175 a bottle).

A blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir, this first batch was disgorged after five years on the lees (various batches of the 2003 were disgorged starting in 2010 and evidently just finished). It’s a very rich and full bubbly with little primary fruit and plenty of biscuity, yeasty character before a very dry finish.

A fine mousse and bright acidity. It’s sure to wow many.

Score: 90/100.
