Jacobsdal Pinotage 2011

Honest injun.

Honest injun.

Best Steakhouse at the recent Eat Out DStv Food Network Awards went to Giorgio Nava’s Carne in Cape Town, the most curious thing about this award being that it was sponsored by Stellenbosch winery Jacobsdal.

The wines from this property have been likeable but modest for ever and a day. The current-release Pinotage 2011, for instance, is an honest-to-goodness example of the variety being medium bodied with red cherry and a subtle savoury flavours (approximate retail price R90 a bottle).

I’d imagine that a good food pairing would be roast chicken or perhaps coq au vin to be really adventurous rather than Carne’s signature La Fiorentina, a 1.2 kg T-bone for two persons or any respectable steak for that matter.

Score: 84/100.
