Jordan Reserve Collection Unoaked Chardonnay 2015

Great with gravlax on toast.

Rebecca Constable, wine product developer for Woolworths, says there are three key attributes to the retailer’s offering: 1) what’s on offer is often award winning; 2) the retailer works closely with the producer in line with their “Meet the makers” campaign and 3) provenance matters.

In an effort to illustrate this, a showcase of eight wines, two each from Villiera, Paul Cluver, Jordan and Spier. I have to say I thought the line-up was schizophrenic – the Villiera Vintage Reserve Brut 2009, which is rated 4½ Stars in Platter’s and sells for R149.95 a bottle right next to the frankly insipid Pinot Noir Rosé 2015 selling for R59.95, for instance.

The wine which perhaps offered the best quality relative to price was Reserve Collection Unoaked Chardonnay 2015. Pear and white peach on the nose and palate. Pure and fresh, some palate weight and good length. Great bang for your buck at R69.95 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 88/100.
