Party on.

Party on.

The first commercial bottling from Kanonkop was a Cabernet Sauvignon 1973 which means this great Stellenbosch property celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

By way of commemoration, the Paul Sauer 40 2007, a barrel selection of the standard Paul Sauer, the label featuring a portrait of the late Paul Sauer, prominent politician and past owner of the farm.

Only 500 bottles produced and price at R730 to mark the year of the maiden release. It’s sublime – red and black fruit, lead pencil, violets, crushed herbs. Perfect balance and a weightless intensity. Great freshness and fine tannins making for a very long finish. No problem stacking up against decent Bordeaux.

Score: 95/100.
