Eben van Wyk, a partner at intellectual property law firm Spoor & Fisher, has started his own label in the form of Litigo, his first wine being a Pinot Noir 2012.
Grapes come from one site in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and another in Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge and the wine was made with the assistance of Crystallum’s Peter-Allan Finlayson – 20% whole bunch, spontaneous fermentation and the use of sulphites kept to a minimum. Total production was 630 bottles and the wine sells for R260.
The nose initially shows toasty oak but with time in the glass, there’s also black cherry. Good fruit concentration and firm but fine tannins – quite rich and ripe for a Pinot but not completely without freshness. A promising debut.
