On the money.

On the money.

Stofberg Family Vineyards is a Breedekloof boutique winery run by Pieter Stofberg and daughter Mariëtte Coetzee. Maiden vintage was 2012 and the wines are called Mia after the Coetzee firstborn.

Winemaker Coetzee has worked in California and France  and the wines she showed me  are more than competent.

Mia Chenin Blanc 2014
Price: R45
Unoaked. Citrus, peach and a hint of honeysuckle on the nose. Good concentration and really zesty acidity, giving the wine a pleasant bite on the finish.

Score: 86/100.

Mia Shiraz 2012
Price: R90
Matured for 18 months in 225-litre French oak barrels. Red berries, some floral fragrance, spice and an attractive smoky note. Good fruit expression, moderate acidity and soft tannins – not at all overdone and very drinkable.

Score: 88/100.
