Marelise Jansen van Rensberg, winemaker at Beaumont in Bot River, makes her own wine under the Momento label.  Her Grenache 2011 was pretty smart (see here) and I recently got to try her Tinta Barocca 2013

From 40-year-old Bot River vines, it underwent spontaneously fermentation and was matured for 15 months in old French oak barrels. Only 1 900 bottles made.

More red than black fruit, spice and a slight earthiness about it. Good concentration, moderate acidity and quite soft tannins. Tasty if a bit quirky. Wine cellar price: R220 a bottle.

Score: 87/100.
