Forza Italia.

Forza Italia.

Do the great Italian varieties travel? That’s the question Morgenster in Somerset West are seeking to address in the ongoing experiment that is the Italian Collection, the 2012s being the sixth release of these wines.

Morgenster Italian Collection Tosca 2012
Price: R209
60% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot. A savoury overlay on top of cherry and cranberry fruit. Medium bodied with juicy fruit upfront before a very dry finish. Appealing but perhaps a bit short of detail.

Score: 87/100.

Morgenster Nabucco 2012
Price: R309
100% Nebbiolo. Very perfumed nose showing red cherry, roses and spice. Light bodied with pure fruit, fresh acidity and soft tannins. The wine seems to be moving in a more elegant direction compared to previous vintages.

Score: 91/100.
