The Koggelbos 2014 from Mount Abora, an oxidatively made Swartland Chenin, is pretty out there. Deep yellow in colour, the nose shows dried stone fruit, honey, a hint of earth and some leesy complexity. The palate is extraordinarily rich and flavourful (despite a relatively low alcohol of 13%) with nicely coated acidity. Lots to like but you wouldn’t necessarily call it “refined”. Wine Cellar price: R110 a bottle.
