Muratie Ansela van der Caab 2007

Francois Conradie arrived at Muratie as winemaker in December 2005 and the wines from this Stellenbosch property have been getting better and better ever since. Last night Muratie Ansela van der Caab 2007, a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 3% Shiraz. Individual components spent 12 months in French oak barrels, before being blended and then put back into barrel for a further six months. Classically styled and understated, the wine shows aromas and flavours of red fruit, spice and some appealing herbal notes. Medium bodied, it has a refreshing line of acidity and fine tannins making it very more-ish but in no way too easy. Oh, and the residual sugar is only 1.9g/l…
