Tuscany meets Piedmont.

Stand-out wine during yesterday’s Nederburg Auction was the Nederburg Private Bin Sangiovese Barbera Nebbiolo 2001 enjoyed with different sort of “finger food” but especially delicious with lamb rib. Obviously the prototype for what is now the Nederburg Ingenuity Red, the 2001 originally sold on the 2003 Auction. Currently, it appears medium bodied with loads of red fruit and lively acidity. No real tannic grip at this stage of its life but a nice savoury finish. Score: 16.5/20.
