Gauteng might not have any beaches or a 7th World Wonder of Nature, but they do have their very own wine route.
The ninth Vaal River Meander Wine Route, in Gauteng, is running for eight weeks from 7 July to 26 August. It will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 18:00 and will only cost you R20 for the tasting of at least eight different wines.
A firm favourite of this wine route is the record number of ways you can reach the various venues. The modes range from a vintage car, luxury cruiser, limousine, helicopter, speedboat, houseboat, tour-bus/taxi, or even by donkey cart.
Some of the venues around the Vaal River who have partnered up with some of South Africa’s top Wine Estates are:
The Emerald Casino and Resort 016 982 8000
Stonehaven on Vaal 016 982 2951
The Liquid Lounge 016 982 3411
Mon Ami Restaurant 016 932 3733
The Waterfront Country Lodge 016 987 3434
To whet your appetite further, here are some of the participating wine estates that you can look forward to; Val de Vie, Spier, Darling Cellars, Leeuwenkuil, Allee Bleue, Goede Hoop, Fat Bastard, Fort Simon, Kumalu, Flagstone, and many more.
The Vaal River Wine Route stands second to none when it comes to exceptional wines, delicious food and the creation of fond memories.
As Leon Schuster once sang, “dis lekker om te lewe hier in Gauteng-a-leng.”
