Top 10 Cabernet Sauvignon wines for 2012

Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine varietal loved by many a South African. Did you know that it is the second most widely planted variety in our country – making up 12% of the national vineyard at the end of 2011.

Wine judge (and ex Wine Magazine Editor) Christian Eedes recently led a tasting panel through 60 of South Africa’s best Cabernet Sauvignon wines to bring us thefirst Cabernet Sauvignon Report, sponsored by Sanlam Private Investments.

The 60wines were subjected to in-depth scrutiny of their strengths and weaknesses, and were given a rating and detailed tasting note. After the first round of judging (a blind tasting), 14 wines were considered to have particular distinction and these went through to a second round. Out of these emerged the Top 10Cabernet Sauvignon wines for 2012.

The Christian Eedes Top Ten Cabernet Sauvignon wines for 2012 are:

Graham Beck The Coffeestone 2009
Tokara 2009

Four and a half stars
Cederberg Five Generations 2009
Rickety Bridge Paulina’s Reserve 2009
Stark-Condé 2009
Stark-Condé Three Pines 2009

Four stars
Kleine Zalze Family Reserve 2007
Louis 2008
