Some time in bottle has done the Club Select Sauvignon Blanc 2012 from Nitida in Durbanville good (price: R115 a bottle). This cuvée is apparently intended to highlight the pyrazine-derived green pepper character of the variety and while this was the case when I encountered it a year ago, I think some of the more thiol-derived flavours are now coming to the fore.
On the nose, a slight note of gunpowder (reduction) which suits the wine. The palate meanwhile displays good intensity without being weighty and there’s a range of flavour from lime through green melon to granadilla. Nicely coated acidity and still some pyrazine bite on the end to add interest. Drinking really well.
