Opstal The Barber Sémillon 2016

By , 19 July 2017

The Barber Sémillon 2016 from Slanghoek property Opstal is knock-out. Grapes from a vineyard planted in 1998, fermentation occurred spontaneously before maturation in old oak lasting 10 months. The nose shows hay, pear, peach, naartjie and a little spice. The palate, meanwhile, is rich and greasy but not without verve thanks to tangy acidity – intensely flavoured with a savoury, almost bitter finish. Price: R250 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 94/100.
