Woolworths wine selector Allan Mullins and Paul Cluver winemaker Andries Burger.

Yesterday a tasting of the new release wines made by Paul Cluver Estate on behalf of retailer Woolworths. Scores and tasting notes as follows:

Ferricrete Riesling 2012: 16/20
Price: R69
Shy nose. Green apple flavour, zippy acidity. Juicy upfront, pithy finish. Immaculate balance  (Alc 10%, RS 19.2g/l, TA 8g/l, pH 2.93).

Limited Release Gewürztraminer 2012: 15.5/20
Price: R59
Rose petals and spice, not as heady as some.  Fresh and fruity.

Cabernet Franc Reserve: 16.5/20
Price: R79
Really charming – while being medium bodied, it does not appear green in any way as the variety often can. Red berries, some floral fragrance on the nose. Pure fruit, fresh acidity, fine tannins.

Pinot Noir Reserve 2010: 15.5/20
Price: R99
Red cherry and hint of reduction on the nose.  Medium bodied, clean and pure. Fruit driven, fresh acidty and a pleasingly dry finish.
