Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2014

Good to go.

Good to go.

Team Boekenhoutskloof is doing some pioneering work with top-end Swartland Syrah in the form of Porseleinberg but the Porcupine Ridge Syrah at the other end of the market shouldn’t be ignored either.

The 2014 shows red fruit, purple flowers, spice and white pepper. In fact, it’s extraordinarily perfumed without being “stemmy”. It’s fabulously generous on the palate – lovely fruit, soft but sufficient acidity and properly ripe tannins. Not overly detailed or super-long but so much else to recommend it including an approximate retail price of only R50 a bottle.

Score: 89/100.
