The waiting is not over yet.

The next big from the Swartland: Porseleinberg is an organic vineyard owned by Boekenhoutskloof. 2010 is the maiden commercial release, the wine made by Callie Louw, previously of Tulbagh Mountain Vineyards (now Fable). 100% Syrah. Whole bunch pressed, spontaneous ferment, 65% matured in 2 500-litre foudres and 35% in 600-litre concrete eggs for 16 months. Available from Wine Cellar in Cape Town at R500 a bottle.

Intense black with a red rim in colour. A very expressive nose displaying red and black fruit, rosemary, lavender and spice. The palate is extremely youthful with great fruit concentration, driving acidity and tannins which although fine are still very firm to the point of astringent. Dramatic but needs at least two years of bottle maturation to settle. Drink 2014 – 2020. Score: 17/20. Special shout-out for the beautiful packaging.
