Workmanlike.

Workmanlike.

Plenty of attention being attracted by KWV’s top-end The Mentors range but what of the big-volume Roodeberg  which retails for around R60 a bottle?

The 2011 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Shiraz, 11% Merlot and 9% “other”. It’s lightly fruity with moderate acidity and soft tannins – no grip to speak of. In it’s favour, it does not appear over-ripe or unduly sweet but remains inoffensive rather than compelling.

Score: 83/100.
