Olé! Olé! Olé!

Ernie Els Wines in Stellenbosch has been awarded the licence to produce two SA rugby wines: a Sauvignon Blanc 2010 and a Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2010.

The Sauvignon Blanc (which bears a white label akin to the change strip of the Springboks) is nice enough with ripe granadilla fruit and moderate acidity while the red blend (green label with gold capsule – wonder where they got that idea from?) is uncomplicated stuff with very ripe red fruit and little tannic grip. I scored the former 15/20 and the latter 14.5/20.

The wines aren’t exactly cheap with the Sauvignon set to retail for R59.99 and the red for R79.99 so probably only for the most devoted of Bok fans.
