Head-banging.

I was a huge fan of the 2011 vintage of Saltare Old Vines Chenin Blanc (see here) made by Carla Pauw so didn’t hesitate to buy a bottle of the 2012 (R129.50 a bottle from Wine Concepts in Newlands).

Whereas grapes for the 2011 came from Paarl, they come from the Swartland in the case of 2012. There’s citrus, apple and peach plus an intriguing leesy quality on the nose while the palate is relatively thick textured with a sweet ‘n sour character to it. Rustic in the best sense – worth seeking out but not quite as striking as the previous vintage.

Score: 89/100.
