Saurwein Nom Pinot Noir 2015

Fruits of the forest.

Jessica Saurwein’s day job is managing sales and marketing for Stellenbosch property Kleinood but she’s also a trained winemaker and in 2015, she made a Pinot Noir from a Kaaimansgat vineyard near Villiersdorp, 18% whole bunch fermentation, nine months in French oak, a third new – just three barrels made.

Very pretty aromatics with notes of red cherry, cranberry, strawberry, some musk, fynbos and spice. The palate, meanwhile, is light bodied with pure fruit, fresh acidity and fine tannins – perhaps a bit fragile but rather Pinot be underdone than overdone… Wine Cellar price: R300 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 88/100.
