Sugar and spice and all things nice.

Sugar and spice and all things nice.

The observation I like about Gewürztraminer is that its fault lies only in having too much of everything, typically being both heavily scented and flavoured.

The 2012 from Simonsig in Stellenbosch (R65 a bottle) which according to Platter’s contains a dash of Morio Muscat is surprisingly drinkable, however. I noted a rose petal nose, followed by a palate showing lime, litchi and a suggestion of spice. Unashamedly sweet with an RS of 31.1g/l, it’s nevertheless comforting rather than cloying.

Score: 85/100.
