Strawberry fields forever.

What makes Simonsig Woolworths Exclusive Selection Pinot Noir Rosé (previously labelled “Limited Release”) notable is that it has no added sulphur (R89.95 a bottle). I’ve found previous vintages have shown too much oxidative character but the 2011 (or at least the bottle I reviewed) is in good nick. Very pale onion-skin in colour, there’s subtle strawberry and intriguing yeasty character on nose and palate. Quite lean yet good flavour intensity, bright acidity and a fine mousse. The finish is long and savoury. Score: 16/20.
