Skinny Legs Semillon 2014

By , 5 January 2016

Kyle Dunn, assistant at AA Badenhorst Family Wines in the Swartland, makes his own wines under the Skinny Legs label, current releases including a Semillon 2014 and a Grenache Gris 2014, both wines fermented on the skins for two weeks and both selling for R155 a bottle from the Wine Kollective in Riebeek Kasteel. Tasting notes and ratings as follows:

Skinny Legs Semillon 2014

Agent orange.

Skinny Legs Semillon 2014
Amber in colour. Not very primary at all but a certain grapiness, peach and dried herbs can be detected. Rich and broad (despite only 11% abv) with good flavour intensity and a wonderfully pithy sensation on the finish. Not as leftfield as you might expect and jolly good drinking.

#WinemagRating: 91/100.

Skinny Legs Grenache Gris 2014
Russet in colour. Yellow and red apple plus earth and spice on the nose. Broad in the mouth with a gently savoury finish. Intriguing but not all that detailed.

#WinemagRating: 88/100.
