Craig Hawkins, the maverick winemaker behind the Testalonga label, detests having his wines scored and in the case of his two new “Baby Bandito” wines, it’s easy to sympathise because while they are not necessarily the most complex out there, their vitality and sheer refreshment value are enchanting. From Chenin Blanc, whole bunch pressed. Pear, apple and white peach plus potpourri and a touch of earthiness. Light but extremely flavourful and full of zip and zing.

From Carignan, whole bunch fermented. Cranberry, raspberry and pomegranate plus some scrub. Lovely pure fruit but not entirely without detail and structure.
