The Fledge and Co. HoekSteen 2015

No unnecessary features.

The unwooded Chenin Blanc that is Hoeksteen from Leon Coetzee and Boplaas winemaker Margaux Nel gets better and better with each passing vintage, the current-release 2015 looking particularly delicious at the moment.

Grapes from two old bush vine blocks in Stellenbosch, the wine was matured in tank for 13 months and alcohol is 13.46%. The nose shows lime, white peach and some “wet wool” character while the palate displays particularly pure fruit and fresh acidity before a savoury finish. It’s understated and rather classy. Price: R155 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 91/100.
